THIS WEEK’S HOMEWORK…

Two pieces again tonight…

ENGLISH

This is the forth in our short series of spelling/vocabulary related pieces of homework. Last week’s task caused a few problems when it came to highlighting the unstressed/unpronounced vowels (a, e, i, o, u). Some of you must speak in a very peculiar way given that you underlined all the vowels! I have highlighted some of the vowels I don’t normally stress, although it could be argued that, being a Yellowbelly with a tendency to throw in a little dialect here and there, I would benefit from elocution lessons!

As usual, this week there is an activity featuring some useful and important vocabulary to complete. I would also like you to have a go at learning the spellings to for a quick, informal test the following Wednesday.

Tip: I’ve said this every time, but please make sure you have copied the words out correctly before you hand your book in on Monday! This will allow you to keep practising, although

The aim of this series of tasks is twofold; to extend vocabulary and to spell such words correctly. The words will either be linked by patterns or themes. The reason we do the informal test in our English books is so that the words are there to use!

SCIENCE

As part of the Keeping Healthy topic, we are looking at micro-organisms and food hygiene. This short homework goes over some of the things we have covered in class already.

REMINDERS

Please remember PE kit should be in school everyday.

There will be a PGL meeting imminently, although if you have other children who have been on one of my residentials, you’ve heard it all before!

JRSO Max Respect Competition

Happy New Year from your JRSOs!

We are starting 2012 with a competition for all children!

During the year we all go on school trips and have to travel on coaches. Some children even come to school by bus! We would like you to design a poster (A4) promoting ‘Max Respect’ when travelling in this way.

Max Respect is a County Council initiative that was launched a decade ago to promote appropriate behaviour travelling on buses, coaches and reminds them that the roads are dangerous and need to be treated with respect – Max Respect!

The poster should focus on travelling by bus and coach and could focus on some of these aspects of safety:

· Seatbelts

· Respect for the driver and fellow passengers

· Anti-bullying

· Safety waiting for buses and coaches

· Safety on home to school transport

· Safety whilst getting on and off transport

Please don’t use negative images please – those containing crashes and injury or unsafe travel won’t be selected. The posters should promote positive and responsible travel!

Any type of artwork can be used. There will be a prize for the poster that we judge to be the best in each class and all posters will be sent off to Lincolnshire County Council for entry in their county-wide Max Respect competition too!

Remember to add your name, age, class and school on the back of your poster. Entries must be in by 25^th January at the latest!

THIS WEEK’S HOMEWORK…

This is the third in our short series of spelling/vocabulary related pieces of homework. The focus this week is ‘tricky words with unstressed letters’. There is an activity featuring some useful and important vocabulary to complete. I would also like you to have a go at learning the spellings to for a quick, informal test the following Wednesday. These are going well so far.

MATHEMATICS

We have been continuing the mental mathematics work this week. Tonight’s task is a mental maths crossword. You may use jottings to help you complete the calculations if you wish and, of course, you can check your answers if you are unsure using a written method. You can use a calculator to check your answers when you have finished the task.

The darts activity was very well completed!

REMINDERS

Firstly today we had Worship which was about the Olympic and Paraolympic values. Next we did The Smurfs for activate, thirdly we had English and we carried on with our News story. After that we did Numeracy and in Numeracy we learned how to read a dart board we were also learning how to add and subtract mentally.After lunch we had Mr.Pickett for Reading and then we had him for Science and we were learning about Keeping Healthy.
